Building an off grid home in the canadian wilderness. Assuming the dog house is rectangular and fully constructed except for a roof measure the halfway point on both short ends and mark it. Run the paper up one side of the roof and down the other. After being medically released from the army they are building an off grid homestead from the ground up.

Cover the surface with tar paper and secure it into place with staples. Use a construction grade staple gun to attach the roofing felt to the roof. Cut a piece of 3 4 plywood at the dimensions shown in the diagram and secure it to the rafters with 1 1 4 screws. Apply only enough staples to hold the paper down until you are ready to add the shingles.
